Non-Rail Activities
The Pacemaker Convention will feature a number of Non-rail activities and clinics.
A Paint & Sip, Wine Tasting, and a Book Club/Discussion are some of the events scheduled so far (see below for details).
In addition a shuttle will be provided to Colonie Center on Wolf Road and Games and Activities will be scheduled at the Desmond Hotel.
In addition there are a number of local Places of Interest to visit on your own in the local area:
SHOPPING ANYONE ??? - COLONIE CENTER
We’ll have a shuttle from the hotel to drop you off at the front door of Colonie Center to shop such stores as Christmas Tree Shop, LL Bean, Penney’s just to name a few. Relax and take in a movie at the newly renovated Regal Cinemas. Have lunch at P.F.Chang’s or the Cheesecake Factory – of course if you want to grab a quick lunch there’s a large food court inside too.
GAMES and ACTIVITIES
We’ll have some more “laid back” activities – card playing, bingo, scrabble, etc.. to make this a special convention for not only your husband (or significant other) but also YOU!! Just check the registration table for the most up-to-date calendar with times when you arrive.
BOOK CLUB / DISCUSSION
Thursday Night - 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM
Free - no signup required
Pick up a copy of Agatha Christies’ Murder on the Orient Express, read it ahead of time and then join
some of your Railroader's spouses, friends, and family to discuss this all time classic . We’ll get to
know one another while enjoying some refreshments and some lively discussions.
WINE TASTING with the SARATOGA ZYMURGIST
Friday Night - 7:30 PM until 9:30 PM
$10 per person - limit of 20 people

The guys have their clinics so let’s have our own W.I.N.O.S (women in need of sanity) clinic. Want to be a wine connoisseur and impress your friends and family? We’ll learn the process of making wine (commercial and homemade), how to select, cook with and of course enjoy different types of wine from a master – all including taste testing. No need to drive – it’ll be presented at the Desmond. Cheers!!!!
PAINT & SIP with DIANE STEELE
Saturday Afternoon - 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM
$10 per person - limit of 15 people

Ever want to try to paint in watercolor but didn’t want to go through the expense of purchasing all those materials? This course is designed to get you up and running with the use of all professional grade materials (paint, paper and brushes). During the two hours of instruction students will enjoy some New York state wines and complete a matted 8X10 painting from the subject of their choice. It’s so much fun and easy! All materials are included. Please join us and bring an old shirt or smock!! WARNING after taking this class your modeler may want you to paint his scenery.
